Meet Sara Acheson
Many of you said, "I want to meet the people running things in our community." So, I’ll be sharing some of the incredible faces I’m meeting from time to time— meet Sara Acheson: 👇
Background:
👋: Sara opened a physical therapy clinic in Alexandria to help women with cancer stay strong and active. She saw a problem—patients were treated for symptoms, but no one helped them stay mobile and feel like themselves. So, she built the solution - a physical therapy service for women battling cancer.
Insight:
💡: Her clinic isn’t just about rehabilitation; it’s about restoring quality of life. Many women navigating cancer treatment are told to “just deal with” the side effects—fatigue, stiffness, loss of strength—but Sara believes they deserve more than that. She works with patients before, during, and after treatment, tailoring movement plans that fit their real lives—whether that means picking up their grandkids or just feeling like themselves again.
Food for thought:
🧠: One thing Sara said really stuck. We send people to physical therapy before knee surgery, but not before cancer treatment—even though we know it affects the whole body. It makes no sense. Why wait until someone is struggling when we could help them from the start?
Her vision is bigger than just physical therapy. She wants to create a space where cancer patients can get the support they actually need—PT, mental health care, even a gym that feels safe and welcoming. For now, she’s taking it one step at a time, helping women stay strong and in control.
