Meet Dr. Tetsuhiro Ueno (TJ)

Many of you said, "I want to meet the people running things in our community." So, I’ll be sharing some of the incredible faces I’m meeting from time to time— meet Dr. Tetsuhiro Ueno: 👇

Background:

👋: TJ moved to the U.S. over 20 years ago from Japan, where he originally worked in international development. But after experiencing the benefits of acupuncture firsthand, he made a bold career shift, training in Austin and eventually opening his own clinic here in Alexandria. He serves people who are either seeking natural solutions from the start or turning to Eastern medicine after conventional approaches haven’t worked.

Insight:

💡: Many people think acupuncture is only for back or joint pain, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. “We treat the whole body. Even when someone comes in with shoulder pain, the real cause could be stress or digestion,” TJ explained. Another myth? That it takes months to see results. “If the diagnosis and point selection are right, you’ll usually notice improvement in just a few sessions.”

Food for thought:

🧠: In the West, we often separate physical and emotional health. But TJ sees them as deeply intertwined. “Even if someone comes in with back pain, it could be rooted in stress or poor digestion,” he said. That’s why he treats the whole person, not just the symptoms. Many of his clients notice results in just a few sessions—proof, he says, that when you treat the body as a connected system, healing happens faster and deeper.

Want to support? Head to their site and say hello. Or TJ encourages people to call the clinic directly rather than book online—“It’s better to talk through your needs and fears first,” he said.
