Meet Sarah DeBlock
Many of you said, "I want to meet the people running things in our community." So, I’ll be sharing some of the incredible faces I’m meeting from time to time— meet Sarah DeBlock: 👇
Background:
👋: Originally from northern New Jersey, Sarah spent a decade working as a chemical engineer until a single yoga class in college changed everything. The hour of calm she experienced during a stressful semester sparked a journey that would take her deep into the practices of yoga and Ayurveda. After years of study, and following her husband’s graduation and move to the Naval Research Lab in D.C., Sarah opened Soma Yoga Healing in Alexandria in 2022.
Insight:
💡: “Yoga isn’t a workout, it’s a state of consciousness.” Sarah is on a mission to shift perceptions around yoga. While it’s often packaged as fitness in the U.S., she emphasizes that true yoga is about self-mastery, not poses. Breathwork, meditation, and mindfulness are the foundation, and physical movement is just one of the many tools. At Soma, the focus is on creating a space where people can reduce anxiety, connect to themselves, and build joy, like a muscle, one breath at a time.
Food for thought:
🧠: In Sarah’s words: “It doesn’t matter how much success, money, or family you have those things don’t guarantee happiness unless you’ve learned how to calm your breath and shift your perspective.” If you're feeling out of sync or just looking for deeper connection, Soma Yoga Healing offers workshops, private sessions, and group classes rooted in healing and community, not performance.

Through honest reflection, Sarah invites readers to see parts of their own story in hers, reminding us that healing and reconnection often begin with the courage to speak our truths. It's a powerful reminder that the most important relationship we can nurture is the one we have with ourselves.
