Many of you said, "I want to meet the people running things in our community." So, I’ll be sharing some of the incredible faces I’m meeting from time to time— meet Ru Toyama: 👇

👋: Ru grew up in Northwest Indiana and later attended the U.S. Naval Academy, where he earned a systems engineering degree before serving 10 years in the Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps. His military journey brought him to the Pentagon in 2013, where his wife had already begun building a career in real estate. After completing his service, Ru pivoted into the mortgage world, bringing the same operational discipline to helping homebuyers navigate one of life’s biggest financial decisions. Nearly a decade later, he’s still doing just that, based right here in Northern Virginia.

💡: One of Ru’s most valuable lessons? “There’s a big difference between what you can afford and what you want to afford.” Most lenders focus on your maximum loan approval, but Ru’s approach starts with your comfort zone, what you'd actually feel good spending each month. He’s also quick to bust myths, like the idea that you need a 20% down payment to buy a home today. For many buyers, including veterans, there are options as low as 0%.
