Meet Gayle Alexander
Many of you said, "I want to meet the people running things in our community." So, I’ll be sharing some of the incredible faces I’m meeting from time to time— meet Gayle Alexander: 👇
Background:
👋: In 2003, two passionate therapists launched Project SAFE in Alexandria with a simple but powerful belief: “You are not broken.” Today, the clinic serves teens, young adults, and families with a personalized, non-clinical approach to therapy. Their services include individual, group, and family sessions, all designed to empower clients, not keep them in therapy forever. One unique element? Group therapy for teens, which helps normalize their experiences and builds community support. The clinic’s name stands for Strategies Aimed at Family Empowerment, and their mission reflects just that.
Insight:
💡: “Our goal is to give you the tools to solve your own problems, so you don’t feel like you need someone to tell you how to function. That’s not how we see therapy.”
This philosophy shows up everywhere: in their sliding-scale pricing, team of licensed clinicians and residents, and their commitment to destigmatizing mental health. Their office is intentionally designed to feel like home, bright, warm, and welcoming, not clinical. It's a space where families feel safe, supported, and seen.
Food for thought:
🧠: Even in a hyper-connected world, loneliness is on the rise. The team at Project SAFE sees that firsthand and they believe real healing happens in community. “Coming together and being unified to help people is such a vital part of how we function in society.” Their hope is to bring people together, not just in therapy, but as a community that supports one another.
